Our pilgrimage to the Alabama wilderness will not be without its comforts.
Indeed, we will be enjoying the hospitality and conviviality of the
Copper Mountain Lodge at Twin Pines, located in
Sterrett, Alabama. (A map and directions to the Copper Mountain
Lodge can be downloaded by clicking
here.) Copper Mountain Lodge offers a variety of
unusual entertainments, including treacherous hikes on a short, well-marked
trail and boats actually propelled by the power of the passenger.
Shuffleboard, tennis, basketball, and playgrounds for youngsters are all
offered.
While there is nary a doubt about the completeness of the entertainments
offered at Copper Mountain Lodge, some may be interested in experiencing
other local colour. To those adventurers, we commend the following
attractions:
|
 | Birmingham, Alabama boasts a variety of attractions,
including the Birmingham Civil
Rights Institute, the Birmingham
Museum of Art,
tours of the Mercedes Benz factory and museum and the
Sloss Furnaces. The paramount
oddity in
Birmingham's catalogue is the statue of
Vulcan, the Roman god of the
forge. Travelers driving to the Copper Mountain Lodge will also
find it convenient to visit the
Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, the largest motorcycle museum
in the world. Additional attractions are listed on the
downloadable map. |
 | Atlanta, Georgia, home to the
Coca-Cola Museum, is fewer
than three hours from Birmingham. Besides being the site of the
1996 Olympics, Atlanta is
also home to the famous CNN
studio tour ― Hotlanta, indeed! |
 | Nashville, Tennessee is less than four hours away from
Birmingham, and offers such oddities as the
Grand Ole Opry and the
Parthenon at Centennial Park. |
 | Memphis, Tennessee and its most famous occupant,
Graceland,
are
only five hours away from Birmingham. |
